Secret Diary Journals for Kids - by Jamie Davis Whitmer
While out at a book sale, I couldn't help but be struck with an excited sense of inspiration when I came across some old childrens' library books. They would be perfect for making some handmade upcycled book journals! I got them home and went to work!
I was able to retain some of the original illustrations in some of the books.
I was always encouraged to write as a child, which very well could be the reason I have authored two books as an adult. I see writing as an almost lost art in our society today, and I want to create a product that engages children and encourages them to put down their electronic devices and sit and think with pen and paper (or colored pencil or crayon).
Maybe if they have something that is special to them that no one else has, they will treasure it and use it to develop their thoughts. I love the idea of a five-year old getting one of these upcycled primary readers and filling it up with his five-year old thoughts, and then shelving it on his bookshelf for the next ten years. Then, one day, when he is a teenager, he finds it unexpectedly when he is looking for another book.
He smiles and reflects back to his childhood. Then, he sits down and starts writing his next chapter.
